Carl Martin Classic Opto-Comp Compressor Guitar Effects Pedal Gain Level Comp Attack Control

Carl Martin Classic Opto-Comp Compressor Guitar Effects Pedal Gain Level Comp Attack Control Review

Carl Martin Classic Opto-Comp Compressor Guitar Effects Pedal Gain Level Comp Attack Control Feature

  • Reduce the gain and compress the signal using a sensitive cell.
  • Gain that makes the sound fatter, level, compression different types of compression and attack controls.
  • Chicken-head knobs and CM graphics.
  • Retro diecast housing.
  • Powered by 9v battery.
Carl was adding some compression to a guitar track in his studio, he thought, why hasnt anyone built a small opto-compressor for guitarists. An optical compressor performs gain reduction control via a light source into a photo sensitive cell... as the light source gets brighter, the photo sensitive cell sends a signal to reduce dynamic range, or what becomes a compressed signal. Welcome to the Vintage Opto-Compressor.an old-school compressor from the days where colouring was an important factor to the sound. The four controls from left to right are the Gain, which controls the pre-glow of the optical circuit the more you turn this up, the fatter the sound Level, which controls the overall volume of the compressor Compression, which controls how hard or soft the compression is, and the Attack control which takes the signal from transparent to outright total squeeze. A short time with this compressor will allow you to find some of those classic guitar sounds which may somehow have escaped you before. Again, like all the Vintage pedals, the Opto-Compressor comes in a solid diecast housing with cool chicken-head knobs, CM colour and graphics and a 9v battery compartment. Due to the nature of compressors, we highly recommend a regulated power supply like the CM Big John or a large stock of batteries.

Carl Martin Octaswitch

Carl Martin Octaswitch Review

Carl Martin Octaswitch Feature

  • Plug in up to eight effects into the eight effects-loops on the back of the switcher
  • Two External Switching jacks allow you to use two amplifiers and/or switch channels on those amps
  • Bypass Switch allows you to completely bypass all eight pedals for the clean sound of your amp
  • Turn on or off the numbered switches in each of eight DIP Bank switches, and determine which effects you wish to use simultaneously in each Bank
  • Blue LED for every effects loop used and for each Bank
  • 100% True-bypass, impedance free, gold relays so you can run any of your pedals
When Carl Martin decided to create a baby-brother for his world famous Combinator, the details of simplifying an already simple effect controller made his head hurt. So Carl enlisted the help of Thomas Guldmann, and the Octa-switch was born. The concept is simple….take your eight favourite effects pedals, plug them into the eight individual loops (all true-bypass gold relays) on the Octa-switch, and then designate what effects you want connected to each of 8 banks via the worlds simplest and smallest DIP switches located over top of each of the eight bank switches. Thomas chose DIP switches because they are just eight individual on-off switches in a tiny tiny package. So if your effects are plugged into Loops 1-8, you simply turn the DIP switch ‘on’ for each of the effects you want in Bank 1, and then Bank 2 etc up to Bank 8. You can use one or all of the effects in each bank, and once you have designated a bank, do us both a favour and cover the DIP with a bit of tape to ensure nothing happens to the DIP switch when you are not looking……like an errant hand, or a flood of beer. The Octa-switch is mono-in and mono/stereo out, with a choice of a buffered signal or not. The unit is powered by dual 9v batteries, or a regulated power supply like the Carl Martin Big John Power Supply, and is housed in an all metal case with heart-stopping (ok, well almost) graphics. So, the same basic options found in the digitally controlled units the famous guys are using, at a fraction of the cost! Carl’s head stopped hurting…..

Carl Martin Buff Deluxe Dual No Noise Buffer with Tuner Out

Carl Martin Buff Deluxe Dual No Noise Buffer with Tuner Out Review

Carl Martin Buff Deluxe Dual No Noise Buffer with Tuner Out Feature

  • Input 1 and 2 Output 1 and 2 Tuner out Mute footswitch LED On and Mute indicators
Dual high quality signal buffer from high to low impedance with a tuner out and mute switch.  The Buff Deluxe is designed to run in conjunction with large multiple effect boards with a lot of “true bypass” effects. The problem with the use of “true bypass” effects is that the guitar signal remains high impedance, resulting in high note loss due to the many feet of cables running at the pedal board, and not the least from board to amplifier.

Carl Martin 3 Band Parametric Preamp

Carl Martin 3 Band Parametric Preamp Review

Carl Martin 3 Band Parametric Preamp Feature

  • Designed for use with acoustic instruments such as guitar, violin, and harmonica Real 3-band parametric EQ Balanced line driver Integrated regulated power supply XLR and 1/4" outputs
Carl Martin 3 Band Parametric Pre-Amp has been specially developed for musicians who play ACOUSTIC GUITAR, VIOLIN, ACCORDION, DOUBLE BASS, etc. These musicians often use combo amps and do not find the use of 19" rack equipment very practical. Experience has shown us that these instruments often require a high quality EQ and balanced line driver. We have integrated those features into a handy stomp box format. For maximum flexibility, we found it necessary to create a high quality 3 band semi-parametric EQ. Carl Martin 3 Band Parametric Pre-Amp works equally well for tweaking the sound of electric guitars, basses and other electronic instruments as well as for direct studio recordings. The 3 Band Parametric Pre-Amp has a built in regulated (+-12V) power supply which enables us to design circuitry of the highest quality with maximum headroom.

Carl Martin 2 Wah

Carl Martin 2 Wah Review

This familiar looking retro-styled foot pedal has an all-metal casing with a non-slip foot pad. The 2Wah pedal can be powered by 9v battery, but Carl Martin always recommends using a regulated power supply (like the Carl Martin Big John Power Supply) for maximum headroom and effect. Input is on the right and output on the left (remember your Wah should be the first pedal in your chain), and the standard effect on-off by stepping on the front of the rocker to engage the true bypass on-off switch. There are two 3-way mode switches on the front of the 2Wah pedal marked Low (red LED) and High (green LED). These are connected to an on-off switch at the back of the pedal (step on back of rocker to engage this switch). The three low and the three high settings are recreations of six of the most popular vintage wah sounds since the beginning of wah. The Attack knob allows you to fine-tune exactly how you want the rocker to modulate your guitar signal. Six different wah sounds, from Hendrix to Trower to Earth Wind & Fire and beyond, all in one guitar pedal. So why didn't they call it the 6 Wah? Well, you would have to ask Carl……The function of a wah pedal is to manually (by way of a rocker control) modulate your guitar's signal. Plug your guitar into the wah (input right) and then to other pedals, or your amp (output left). By stepping on the front of the rocker, you engage the on-off switch, and by stepping on the back of the rocker you engage the Mode switch. Select position 1, 2, or 3 in both High and Low Modes, engage the effect and fine-tune the attack of this effect by adjusting the Attack knob (also on the front of the 2 Wah). The green (Low) and red (High) LED's indicate which Mode you are in, with Low being typically for lead work, and High being used more often for rhythm work.

Carl Martin AC-Tone Overdrive Pedal

Carl Martin AC-Tone Overdrive Pedal Review

Carl Martin AC-Tone Overdrive Pedal Feature

  • 2 channels of overdriveClean boost channel up to 20dBBuilt-in regulated +/- power supply
AC-Tone is the next overdrive in the British voiced vein, as the PlexiTone it is a three in one pedal. The AC-Tone offers two channels of overdrive, voiced alike for preset usage, on top of that it gives you an up to 20dB clean boost channel. The overdrive is low to medium gained for a sweet and crispy with the mellow midrange that reminds one of the old TopBoost amps from the late 60's , the two channels are ranging from a mild breakup to a healthy overdriven sound. One channel can be used for that slightly chimey breakup, and the other channel can be set for more overdrive giving more saturated mids and drive, you can freely set them the way that suits your needs. The AC-Tone has as most Carl Martin pedals a built in regulated (+-12V) power supply, to secure the necessary headroom that gives you the great tone.
